Personal Accident
Life is invaluable. You cannot put value to it. The pain of losing a loved one in an accident is such that no amount of money can ease it. A Personal Accident Insurance Policy cannot bring your loved one back but it can help in many ways. It can help recover the economic loss as well as defray the cost attendant to an accident. The Personal Accident Insurance Policy can help you start all over again.

A form of insurance which provides monetary compensation for death or bodily injury arising from accidental, violent, external and visible means

  • Accidental - sudden and unforeseen
  • Violent - characterized by force so as to injure
  • External - characterized by outside force
  • Visible - can be viewed by the naked eye or medical device
     
Coverage/Benefits
  • Death Benefit (A) - pays Principal Sum Insured
  • Temporary Disablement (B) - pays the percentage of the Sum Insured corresponding to the injury
  • Temporary Disablement (C)
    Two (2) types:
    • Temporary Total (C1) - pays 2/3 of Assured’s weekly income
    • Temporary Partial (C2) - pays 1/3 of C1
  • Medical Reimbursement (D) - pays for actual medical expenses incurred by Assured due to a covered accident up to the limit specified in the policy
     
Additional Benefits (by endorsement)
  • Murder and/or Assault (M/A): unprovoked (up to 100% of A/B or P1.0M)
  • Non- Scheduled Flight (NSF): as a passenger of any standard non-military helicopter or aircraft
  • Motorcycling
     
Standard Exclusions
  • Wars, invasions, riots, strikes
  • Suicide or attempted suicide
  • Alcoholism or drug addiction
  • Diseases like hernia, venereal disease, insanity
  • Earthquake, volcanic eruptions or tidal waves
  • Traveling in an aircraft other than one licensed for public passenger service & operated by a regular airline on a published scheduled flight over a regular air route, and in which the insured is traveling as a ticket holing passenger
  • Hunting, racing of all kinds, steeple chasing, polo playing, mountaineering and other hazardous sports
  • Pregnancy or childbirth
  • Nuclear weapons or instruments
  • While using woodworking machinery driven by mechanical power
  • Murder and/or Assault
  • Motorcycling
     
PA Insurance Packages
Personal Accident Broad (PAB)
Personal Accident Insurance Cover, where the proposer may choose the benefits and amounts of coverage
  • Who may be covered
    • Any person not classified under “Prohibited Risks”
    • Persons between the ages of 16 to 65 years old at the time the application is submitted
  • Special Features
    • Worldwide coverage, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day
    • Covers commercial flights
    • Disablement Benefit does not necessitate severance of body part
    • Benefits extend to cover up to 12 months even after the policy has expired provided the accident occurred within the policy period
  • Classifications of Occupations
    • Class I - No manual work - mostly office work
    • Class II - No manual work but includes Traveling, Inspecting or Surveying
    • Class III - Includes occasional manual work and/or supervision of manual work
    • Class IV - Occupations or duties involving light manual work
    • Special Occupational Risks - Duties/occupations involving heavy manual work (Covers DEATH ONLY)

Businessman’s Personal Accident (BPA)
PA coverage specially designed for businessmen and/or company executives

Family Personal Accident Plan (FPA)
The Family Personal Accident Insurance Plan is a unique package plan which provides accident insurance for the Insured (who is called the principal insured), and his family all under one policy, at a lower cost than if these coverages were issued under separate policies

  • Who may be covered
    • Married and with Children - The principal and his/her spouse not over 65 years old and unmarried dependent children between the ages of 1 and 23 years
    • Widow or Widower with Children - The principal applicant and unmarried dependent children with ages as stated above
    • Single - The principal applicant, his parents not over 65 years old and unmarried dependent brothers and sisters between age of 1 to 23
    • Married without Children - The principal applicant and the spouse who are not over 65 years old
  • Benefits
    • DEATH AND DISABLEMENT - Company Pays:

      • a. The Principal Insured - similar to the PAB Schedule
      • b. Spouse - 50% of the Principal Sum Insured
      • c. Children (brother or sister) - 10% of the Principal Sum Insured, not to exceed P50,000.00
      • d. Parents - 25% of the Sum Insured for each parent. If only one parent is alive, cover is up to 50% of Sum Insured
    • MEDICAL - covers the Principal Insured, spouse and children only

Protective Personal Accident
PA for persons engaged in manual work but do not qualify under the class IV PAB category due to their relatively higher accident exposure or susceptibility

Unnamed Passengers Personal Accident
Provide monetary compensation to passengers and driver of the vehicles specified in the policy in case of accident

Student Personal Accident
Insurance package for bonafide students

Christmas ‘PA’ Card
Widely known as the XPA card, it is another PA package offered to the public during the Yuletide season

Preferred Personal Protection Plan
Combined death/permanent disablement and hospitalization package.

     
Claims

Upon occurrence of loss, notify insurer as soon as possible.

  • General Requirements
    • Claim forms to be provided by insurer and filled out by the insured
    • Police report or Affidavit of at least two witnesses to accident
    • Certification from School (for SPA)
  • Specific Requirements
    • Death Claim
      • Death certificate
      • Post Mortem Examination report
      • Receipts for burial expenses
      • List of beneficiary (ies)
      • Medical records
    • Permanent Disability Claim
      • Medical report
      • X-ray report
      • Amputation report
    • Temporary Disability Claims
      Certification form from the insured’s employer and physician as to the inclusive dates:
      • the insured is totally unable to perform work
      • the insured can resume light work but not normal duties
      • the insured can resume normal duties
    • Medical Reimbursement Claims
      Original official receipts representing payment of hospital and professional fees
